Simple, action-filled view from the deck of a modern racing yacht mid-ocean and mid-race. The wind is on the back quarter, the yacht is on a drag race across the big swell, with the crew focussed on keeping the roller-coaster speed without tipping over and dipping the boom in the water… The painting features the boom and un-reefed main sail and hints at the rigging, sheet and guard rails. The main focus, however, is the sea with the patterns of light and shade, the yacht’s wake and the wind rippling over the surface. There’s a narrow ribbon of sky at the top of the painting, showing it’s a blue-sky, champagne-sailing day.
Colours are cream, blue, lilac and more blue, with white on the wake.
Painted using Sennelier and Michael Harding oils, on a Belle Arti pre-stretched, gesso-primed canvas panel.
