Dawn over the Atlantic on the morning after a nasty spinnaker wrap. The staysail is on the deck, the jib is hidden behind the main sail, slack running backstays contrast with the apricot sky reflected in rippled mid-ocean water. Palette of pastels, with lots of blue sky visible between the light and dark fluffy clouds.
Painted in my studio from photos taken by me on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. I crewed on Hull and Humber, one of a matched fleet of ten 68′ yachts. We had two bad spinnaker wraps on our first big, ocean-crossing leg and then I don’t remember another one in the rest of the race. We must have learned something!
