Stone Bridge (Etching)

£ 125.00

There's a stone footbridge near the village of Austwick, over a hill-stream that crosses the track. There's a ford next to the bridge, but when I first saw it the normally-chattering stream was a raging torrent thundering down the hillside, with the bridge nearly underwater. The etching is imbued with the sense of danger I felt as I hesitated before risking the slippery limestone bridge. There are many, many such little bridges throughout the Dales. I have shown the bridge and river, with stark winter outlines of the overgrown hedges on the other side. The straggly remains of grass can be seen on both sides. The water is white with foam as it rages over the hidden rocks. The winter sky is quiet.
